Minibems is unique in applying IoT technology to dynamically control real-time flow rate, operate and monitor the use of heat for each dwelling across the heat network development. This results in a reduction of primary fuel usage versus business as usual, as well as a much-reduced call out ratio on social housing sites. Other services are limited to metering and billing and monitoring only.
We’d like to thank the Business Green Technology Festival and Awards for recognising this value when shortlisting Minibems in the Building Technology of the Year category. Although this was awarded to another successful entrant, it didn’t detract from what was a fantastic day celebrating like-minded green technology providers who are working towards a sustainable, low carbon economy.
Minibems delivered a pitch on the day as part of the awards festival Net Zero Challenge, giving an overview of the service offer for heat network developments. The feedback from the assorted entrepreneurs, start-ups and investors was very encouraging.
This is a sector Minibems is very passionate about, with heat networks set to play a huge role in carbon and energy reduction in the UK. Additionally, many heat networks are used in the social housing sector and therefore fuel poverty needs to be alleviated.
With around 600,000 heat interface units connected to heat networks this makes up about 2% of all heating required in the UK. This number is due to increase some five to ten-fold over the next decades. By deploying Minibems to new and existing connections around half of the existing OpEx cost can be saved, the equivalent of hundreds of pounds. Additionally, 20% to 60% of the carbon emissions related to each connection can be removed. On new builds, the CapEx associated with pipework size reductions will lower costs for every new heat network, by integrating Minibems technology.
