Devonshire hotel is looking forward to reopening for the summer season after undergoing major refurbishment and the installation of a Minibems-enabled biomass heating and hot water system.
The recently renovated Eagle Hotel & Spa, in Okehampton, is an off-grid period property which was previously heated by a single LPG boiler. When the building’s new owners took the decision to add spa facilities and build further accommodation, the old heating system was no longer sufficient to heat the property. This provided the proprietors with the ideal opportunity to address the high running costs associated with LPG fuel, as well as the lack of heating control and inherent unreliability of an outdated system.
In August 2015, the LPG system was removed, and an RHI-compliant, Fröling P4 60kW pellet biomass boiler with Minibems controls was installed in its place. This system delivers zonal heating and hot water to the entire property, and provides the hoteliers with the ability to control and monitor zones individually – essential when simultaneously catering for the varying requirements of spa treatment rooms, self-catering accommodation and the main hotel building itself.
Eagle Hotel & Spa is looking forward to relaunching the business with reduced running costs and greater control over its heating and hot water – all thanks to its Minibems installation. The inclusion of the pellet biomass boiler into the scheme has the added benefit of ongoing payments from the Renewable Heat Incentive – saving thousands of pounds per year.
