Minibems is recruiting a Junior Software Developer who has a willingness to develop their front end and backend skillset. The role will involve refining the Minibems web app, developing and testing new features, assisting with visual design and providing second line support to existing and new client.

We are looking for a self-starter willing to learn a variety of new skills with the ability to manage their own tasks/ workload and contribute to strategic decision making.

Reporting to

Operations Manager

Tasks

Develop and improve the user interface of the Minibems web app.

Collaborate with embedded systems developers to build new functionality into the Minibems software offering. This will require the integration of our embedded software, an online server, database and the Minibems web application. The ideal candidate will initially be working on the front-end but be willing to develop a skill set to work on the back-end as well.

Responsibilities

  • Research and introduce new technologies and methods.
  • Develop/test new features and components.
  • Maintaining legacy software
  • Assist with the visual design of the Minibems software.
  • Assist the front-end, back-end and embedded software development team, with a range of different tasks.
  • You will also be providing 2nd line support our customers with effective support, reviewing and rectifying the issue at hand via our online system, offering solutions to their needs/requirements via email or phone.
  • Managing client support requests such as debugging and fixing software issues and escalating where required through to a fix being implemented.
  • Administering the Software departments ticketing system by creating and allocating accordingly.
  • As the candidate develops their skillset and becomes immersed in the project and team it will be expected for them to start contributing to strategic decisions in regards to product development.

Salary

Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

Working week

37.5hrs per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am until 5.00pm

Skills

Essential skills

  • Relevant degree or experience
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Ability to easily communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience.
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of the software development cycle/AGILE methodology
  • Knowledge of working with version control (GIT)

Preferable skills

  • Experience working with RESTful API’s
  • Experience with PHP and/or React
  • Good understanding of MySQL and NoSQL databases
  • Good understanding of AWS

Bonus skills

  • Experience with: Java Linux
  • Single-board computers e.g Raspberry Pi, BeagleBoard, Arduino

Employer description

Minibems delivers a managed heating service to residents using an IoT smart controller. We develop software to control and monitor large heating systems with the aim of reducing costs, carbon emissions and increasing the ease of installation and operation of complex heating systems. This is achieved through embedded controllers providing real-time control and monitoring of equipment throughout the heat network. The controllers are connected to our web app through the cloud which provides remote real-time monitoring and control.
